Joyfully joining hearts to serve underserved Seniors!
Q and A
Important Q & A
The overarching mission of BLISS is to provide non-medical in-home care assistance and resources at NO COST to eligible low-income Seniors.
Why BLISS, and why NOW?
- 25% of San Diego’s senior population (ages 65+) does not have enough income to meet basic needs including the costs of housing, food, transportation, health care, and taxes, according to the United Way’s 2023 Real Cost Measure report. (Source: United Ways of California) – fact check
- Why is BLISS critically important now? Statistics show an estimated 48% of 65+ year-old San Diego residents have physical or mental conditions that disable them from performing activities of daily living (ADL’s). Asaresult,theseSeniorsstruggletomaintainpersonalsafety and the dignity of independent living in their own homes. Their desperate need calls for a radical solution.
- BLISS is the only community care program of its kind that focuses entirely upon providing non-medical in-home care services AT NO COST to eligible Seniors. Part of our advocacy is to provide an extra level of protection to Seniors who wish to stay in the comfort of their own homes. BLISS caregivers help to protect Seniors by reducing physical hazards and increasing emotional support. The result is renewed quality of life!
Who is eligible for BLISS care services?
- BLISS beneficiaries are over 55 years of age;
- They have some kind of medical condition that makes activities of daily living like personal care, meal preparation and housekeeping impossible without help;
- They have monthly income of under $2,200; and,
- They live in Senior mobile home parks or subsidized Senior housing in East County.
What is BLISS’ Goal?
- In 2024, our goal is to raise $200,000 in funds by the end of the year
How much funding does BLISS need to reach those goals?
- We start with $35, then multiply! $35 funds one hour of non-medical in-home care service by a licensed care provider whose JOY is to serve Seniors. $35 provides someone to listen, someone to change their bedsheets and to make their home a little bit nicer, someone to assist in Activities of Daily Living. Help us multiply the hours of service we extend to underserved Seniors in San Diego.
Is BLISS in competition with other Senior care agencies?
No. BLISS is unique but not in competition. There are several great local nonprofits that provide care to Seniors with the advantage of insurance and government subsidy. BLISS is dedicated to providing services at NO COST to the Seniors. Some organizations may choose to partner with BLISS as a supplement to their full-service program. BLISS is eager to partner with other organizations to create many more jobs for caregivers as together we respond to needs within the low-income Senior communities.
How do you impart your core values to ensure that Seniors receive the highest standard care?
BLISS Community Care Program includes an orientation of the Caregiver that shapes a heart to serve and vets the compassion, empathy and professional skill of those who graduate from the program before they are engaged in the homes of our Beneficiaries. The caregivers form small teams that focus their service at one Senior community for shift compliance and efficiency, as well as to maintain an appropriate relational bond and companionship for the Senior.
